Founded in 1958, Sanmill is the only comprehensive research and development institution in China's abrasives industry. With these two breakthroughs as the source, Sanmo led China's superhard material industry from scratch, from small to large, from weak to strong, forming the world's most complete industrial chain, and gradually occupied the world's absolute dominant position in the industrial scale.

"In response to the processing needs of semiconductor chips, aviation, ships, automobiles and other fields, we have developed a number of series of complete sets of grinding wheels, breaking the foreign monopoly, solving a number of precision machining 'stuck neck' problems, and filling up the technical shortcomings that have long plagued the development of ultra-hard grinding wheels for high-efficiency precision machining of semiconductor chips in China, and are at the international advanced level." Liu Mingyao, director of the State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials Abrasive Tools, said that at present, the results of the project have been mass-produced in Sanmo and successfully applied to international chip manufacturing enterprises.

From simple diamond research and development to the development of the whole chain, the three grinding has broken the situation that China's high-grade precision superhard material products mainly rely on imports, and successfully developed the chip "cutting, grinding, polishing" processing of the whole system of superhard material products, which is of great significance to the independent and independent control of China's chip processing industry and ensure the technical security of the chip industry.

Chen Enhou, general manager of Sanmo Institute, said that in the past five years, the institute's research and development investment reached 140 million yuan, and science and technology investment reached 392 million yuan, accounting for 7.3% and 20.4% of operating income, respectively, which effectively guaranteed scientific research and innovation and project research, "Future research and development investment will be further tilted to the functional diamond industry, and the laboratory will gather and cultivate outstanding talents." Zhao Yanjun, secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of Zhengzhou Abrasive Grinding Research Institute Co., LTD., said that the laboratory will be based in China, look at the world, effectively organize and use domestic and international resources, form a joint force, enhance the source supply capacity, play the role of the original innovation source, gather and train high-level talents in the industry, and break through the major science and problems of the basic frontier crossing. Solve the "stuck neck" technology problems that threaten the security of the national industrial chain and supply chain.

It is understood that Henan province is the birthplace of China's superhard materials and abrasive tools industry, technology center, radiation source and industrialization base, the output accounts for more than 80% of the country, forming the "superhard materials and abrasive tools global market to see China, the Chinese market to see Henan" advantage.
